On Tuesday’s beautiful afternoon, the serene scene of the Cold Spring waterfront was being brought to life on canvas. Artist Susan Sapanara enjoyed a peaceful sunny day beside the Hudson River with her paintbrush in hand for her latest project.

Sapanara moved to Philipstown about a month ago with her husband. As an artist, the Hudson River Valley scenery provides constant inspiration in her newfound home.

Now retired, Sapanara spent her career as a designer in textiles and home furnishings, but has always had a passion for fine art and nature. She began a group for botanical illustrators, and her work will be featured in an exhibit at the New York-New Jersey Trail Conference in Mahwah, NJ, with a grand opening later this month.

Sapanara began her Cold Spring waterfront painting at about 9:30am Tuesday morning, and by 1pm, she was making the finishing touches.
