Mission Statement

I came across this quote while I was toying with the idea of blogging.  I knew I wanted to explore the creative process and find my way back to making art for the pure joy of it, like it was for me when I was young, before art school and before it became tied up with work.  The quote solidified the goal.  I hope the blog helps me find the way.  If you are an Artist, I hope you find inspiration and camaraderie, otherwise maybe a better understanding of  what drives us to distraction.

Susan Sapanara

“THERE IS A VITALITY, A LIFE FORCE, AN ENERGY, A QUICKENING THAT IS TRANSLATED THROUGH YOU INTO ACTION AND BECAUSE THERE IS ONLY ONE YOU IN ALL OF TIME, THIS EXPRESSION IS UNIQUE. AND IF YOU BLOCK IT, IT WILL NEVER EXIST THROUGH ANY OTHER MEDIUM AND IT WILL BE LOST.  THE WORLD WILL NOT HAVE IT.

IT IS NOT YOUR BUSINESS TO DETERMINE HOW GOOD IT IS NOR HOW VALUABLE, NOR HOW IT COMPARES WITH OTHER EXPRESSIONS.  IT IS YOUR BUSINESS TO KEEP IT YOURS CLEARLY AND DIRECTLY TO KEEP THE CHANNEL OPEN.  YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BELIEVE IN YOURSELF OR YOUR WORK. YOU HAVE TO KEEP OPEN AND AWARE DIRECTLY TO THE URGES THAT MOTIVATE YOU.  KEEP THE CHANNEL OPEN.

NO ARTIST IS PLEASED. THERE IS NO SATISFACTION WHATEVER, AT ANY TIME.  THERE IS ONLY A QUEER DIVINE DISSATISFACTION, A BLESSED UNREST THAT KEEPS US MARCHING AND MAKES US MORE ALIVE THEN THE OTHERS.”

  1. Hi Susan,
I have just had notice that you are following my blog and so I checked out yours, your mission statement speaks to me loud and clear – and I thought it was just me seeming to be battling with my own “queer, divine dissatisfaction”.

Thank you for this, I will be reading and gazing more at all that you post.
Yours, in haste to get working on this brilliantly beautiful English summer morning
